Reflection
In the course of compiling pertinent works, I found print and electronic medical, psychological, and linguistic journals to be the best sources of information. Scouring the Internet yielded disappointing results, and biased, unscientific articles on the subject matter. The book sources, though more difficult to gain access to than the articles, are also fantastic and contain a variety of viewpoints on various facets of the issue. Finally, as one can see, I chose to focus on the technical linguistic aspects of the issue, rather than the political aspects. While there are several sources that discuss the political implications of second language acquisition in the public school system, because school systems are so different, and political climates vary in different regions of the U.S., I chose to provide more scientific sources and a few background sources on SLA in the classroom in order to let the user develop his/her opinion concerning this highly controversial issue.
